In April of 1775  Daniel Boone and a group of about 30 others arrived at the southern bank of the Kentucky River where they began building a fort that would become Fort Boonesborough.  The  terrain was rugged and the life was filled with perils.  In 1778 the Fort was attacked by American Indian warriors led by Chief Blackfish.  The siege lasted for several days; eventually the Indian  forces  withdrew.  Fort Boonesborough was one of the first frontier settlements in Kentucky.
